W.H. Davis Secures Major new contract with Irish Rail
W.H. Davis has been awarded a contract by Iarnród Éireann to design and manufacture 68 infrastructure maintenance wagons, supporting the long-term resilience and efficiency of Ireland’s rail network.
The new wagons will replace Iarnród Éireann’s existing maintenance fleets, most of which was built more than 50 years ago and is approaching the end of its operational life. Engineered to meet current and future operational requirements, the wagons will support the transport of rails, sleepers, and track panels, enabling safe and reliable delivery across the network.
This order builds on W.H. Davis’s ongoing relationship with Iarnród Éireann, following on from the contract for 150-wagon intermodal freight wagons placed under the same framework in April 2025. Prototype vehicles are currently in production, with deliveries expected to commence from summer
2027, followed by testing and commissioning ahead of entry into service from late summer 2027.
The infrastructure maintenance wagons will be engineered and manufactured at W.H. Davis’s Shirebrook facility in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. Valued at approximately €23 million, the order represents a significant investment by Iarnród Éireann, who have entrusted W. H. Davis as a result of its proven UK rail engineering capability and delivery assurance.
” This contract reflects the strength of the relationship W.H Davis is building with Iarnród Éireann and the confidence placed in us to deliver a reliable and consistent wagon build service for Ireland. Our focus is on assured delivery and building partnerships founded on trust, as well as engineering
performance. By combining proven UK rail engineering expertise with an engineered-to-requirement approach, we are proud to support Irish Rail with dependable assets that will perform throughout their operational life.”, said by Andy Houghton – Managing Director of W.H. Davis.
The contract further reinforces W.H. Davis’s position as a trusted UK rail engineering partner, delivering dependable, compliant and lifecycle-focused wagon solutions for freight and infrastructure operators, and we are excited to be continuing the journey in building a long term partnership with
Irish Rail.
